Kathmandu and traveling  (More)This presentation is the travelogue of a geologist visiting
the Himalayan Mountains in Nepal and Tibet. Starting in
Kathmandu and traveling to Beijing, at very high altitudes,
between 5,000 feet and 16,000 feet above sea level, the
author takes the audience through the picturesque
physiographic provinces of the Himalayan Mountains, their
rivers, rocks, small towns, and religious places. Mount
Kailash (abode of Hindu God Shiva), Mansarover (the lake
created by the Hindu God Brahma) and Potala palace (Buddhist
Monastery in Lhasa) are the important religious places
visited by the author during his journey. These places are
equally important for the Hindus and Buddhist pilgrims
around the world. The journey continues from Lhasa to
Beijing on the world's only railroad that travels at the top
of the world (at altitudes of 15,000 feet plus) and
constructed and opened only a few years ago. (Less)
